Stop what you’re doing and go meditate for 5 minutes!

Let’s get to it! I know, I don’t sound very relaxed right now, do I? Hence, why I need to meditate on a daily basis. I like to take action, implement changes right away when I feel I need and want to, but this can have a downside as well. This means that come the end of the day, sometimes I can still be in a kind of busy mode.

I feel like I am hearing more about meditation than I did 10 years ago. I am going to be brief and to the point because here’s the thing – I don’t want to make meditation a thing.  And I don’t want you to overthink it or feel intimated by it.  And even more so, I’d rather you take 5 minutes to meditate than keep reading this blog post. Come back after and keep reading if you’re leaving us to meditate right now.

You can meditate anywhere at any time.  I am a girl who needs some structure.  Like, I need it with everything.  I lost and have maintained a 100 pound weight loss because of structure.  So I am all about the headspace app.  Why? Because I can and do feel accomplished meditating for 5 minutes.  So, set any pre-conceptions of meditation aside–well you can keep your pre-conceptions–download headspace and see it work wonders just as I have for the past 3 1/2 years.

Part of human nature is that when we feel more successful with something we are likely to keep doing it.

Here are my Top 5 reasons to meditate (I mean, there’s a whole lot more than 5 reasons, but I am going to reduce it to 5 to give you more time to actually meditate).

Reduces Stress

Yeah simply by doing it, meditation reduces stress.  Trust me, you will notice it.  And then your mind will feel lighter because of it.

Controls Anxiety

Yes, yes, yes. When I am super stressed I actually don’t want to meditate.  I don’t think it’s going to help.  I actually don’t think anything is going to help.  But then I mediate and realize there’s a lot that can help.

Sleep Better

I love to overthink things.  Can anyone out there relate?  When I have a lot on my mind sometimes I can fall asleep, but then I wake-up in the middle of the night.  I’ve tried all things before, like writing down what I am thinking about, but I don’t want to turn on the light and I don’t want to write.  I am usually annoyed that I woke-up.  But I can reach over to my phone, eyes squinting, and flip to the fall back to sleep option on the headspace app.

Enhances Focus

So look at the 3 above items: Reduces Stress, Controls Anxiety, Sleep better.  All of these affect our physical, mental, and emotional experiences that we have on a daily basis.  You can imagine how stress, anxiety, and lack of sleep could impede your focus in your personal and/or emotional life.  Reducing those 3 automagically enhances your focus.  Sometimes the answer is not working harder, it’s working more efficiently.  Meditation can and will help you do that!!

Experience More Joy

Now I am feeling less stressed, less anxious, I am sleeping better, I am feeling more efficient in my daily life (score!) so I am feeling more joy unfold in my life.  Have you ever had that feeling that everything looks and seems gray?  Meditation will turn that gray into full spectrum color.  It’s so cool.  I don’t see full spectrum color every day, but I know that when things become gray I have a choice to see the brightness of life again.

Go meditate now peeps (or later, or tomorrow).

But don’t put it off until tomorrow because you have 5 minutes to invest in your peace of mind today!
